Ryan Ashley Malarkey reached international prominence by winning the 2016 “Ink Master” and appearing on the 2017 reality show, “Ink Master: Angels.”

With top tattoo conventions this year in the United States, Mexico, England, and Spain, and on the cover of top magazines like Tattoo Life, Inked, and Tattoo Society, she was the most sought-after tattoo artist.

It’s not unusual for people living in New York City to come from small towns to become fashion designers; she spent years at a private label applying beadwork, lace, and ornaments to apparel.

Ryan Ashley moved back and forth between the coast and inland before settling in New York City for her tattoo career, successfully defining her own signature style made of fashion, antiques, and jewelry. She meticulously plans and draws her compositions ahead of time, before transferring them onto skin.

Ryan Ashley Malarkey Tattoo

There are ink masters and ink artists. Quite literally, Ryan Ashley DiCristina (Malarkey) is the Ink Master. Since she hosted the Ink Master show, she cannot be argued with. Her skills are even more difficult to argue with.

She is one of the best at ornaments and jewelry, and that’s one of her specialties. I think it may be one of the more sustainable paths to high fashion that is available. I love it!

First Female Winner on Ink Master

When she became the first female winner on Season 8 of Ink Master, Malarkey started a movement. She revealed her winning tattoo live on stage during the finale of Ink Master: a 24-hour chestpiece.

Malarkey’s tattoo design is totally outside of Malarkey’s comfort zone. Her tattoo design is a 90’s New School, hot rod inspired piece that she did in full color. Kelly Doty chose this style as the finalist for the Ink Master contest.

Here is Malarkey’s tattoo reveal:

Ryan Ashley Personal Life

Previously, Malarkey operated a tattoo studio and oddities shop in Kingston, Pennsylvania called The Strange and Unusual. Malarkey eventually opened up a location in Philadelphia for the retail shop he co-owned with former fiancé Josh Balz.

She announced her boyfriend Arlo DiCristina on the cover of Inked Magazine in November.

Her Instagram account announced on summer of 2019 that she was leaving New York. After moving to Grand Junction, Colorado, she started working at Elysium Studios with DiCristina. In Colorado, Malarkey has joined the team at Elysium Studios and tattoos clients there.

Host of Ink Master Angels

After winning Ink Master, Malarkey joined Kelly Doty, Nikki Simpson, and Gia Rose in a spin-off called “Ink Master Angels.”

Tattoo artists from across the country competed against each other in this show. Tattoos at the end of every episode had deeper meanings, and the show touched on important subjects such as suicide, mental health, addiction, and immigration.

Aside from Malarkey, other artists competing on the show included Tone Chingon, Daniel Silva, Tony Scientific, Jimmy Butcher, Mike Wallace, and Austin Rose.

Austin Rose and Danel Silva both prevailed over Malarkey in their tattoo face-offs to qualify for Ink Master.

Judge on Ink Master Grudge Match

Paramount Network announced in the summer of 2019 that Malarkey would be returning to the Ink Master franchise as the judge for Ink Master Grudge Match.

The all-new judging panel includes Malarkey and former Ink Master contestants Cleen Rock One and DJ Tambe. The show pits former Ink Master rivals against each other in brand new tattoo competitions.

“I think every female has a different experience in the industry. Every shop is different, every artist is different. I know a lot of female tattooers that have had an amazing ride and everyone has treated them with respect, and it’s been great. And I know a lot of female tattooers that have had negative experiences, that have been treated badly for one reason or another.”
